Thursday, May 6, 2010, 9:00 am — 11:30 am The President of The Uplift Network will represent The Uplift Institute at a briefing  on "Evaluating the New Supplemental Poverty Rate Proposal.  A Center on Children and Families Event. At the The Brooking's Institution, Falk Auditorium.

U.S. Census Bureau recently announced that it will develop a new supplemental poverty measure, based in part on a well-known 1995 report from the National Academy of Sciences. The current poverty measure has been strongly criticized by experts from all points on the political spectrum because it ignores billions of dollars in family income, including government benefits that are specifically designed to help low-income families. Critics also point out that the country is using a poverty threshold that does not reflect the increase in basic living standards over time.

 

On Friday, May 7, 2010 - 12:00 to 2:00 p.m.the  Hudson Institute’s Bradley Center for Philanthropy and Civic Renewal will host former Congressional Budget Office Director DOUGLAS HOLTZ-EAKIN, Ph.D. Our President will represent the Uplift Community Foundation.

by the Hudson Institute - Betsy and Walter Stern Conference Center.Event Description: When the financial crisis first struck in late 2008, a flurry of foundation press releases promised to maintain commitments to grantees, uphold foundations’ missions, cut their own administrative costs, and establish emergency funds and other initiatives to help those hardest hit. It’s not too soon to take a look at how the foundations have performed in the crisis.
